With very heavy hearts we announce the sudden & unexpected passing of Hal, who succumbed to complications from bacterial meningitis. He was born & raised in Powell River, BC. At a young age, Hal ventured off to Slave Lake, AB, in search of work, where he also found the love of his & future wife, Julie. Together they raised a beautiful, close-knit family. Hal was a very hard working man, but family always came first. He did any odd job & traveled anywhere to support his family. He never complained, & was a man who never rested, as he had ambition and some sort of project going on. His homestead on the lake was Hal’s pride & joy, & he never stopped working at it. Hal was always the life of the party with his carefree attitude; he always just wanted to make everyone laugh with his jokes. As long as everyone else was having a good time, so was he. Hal would help anyone in need, because that’s just the guy he was. He had the biggest heart, despite his leathery biker appearance. Even though Hal’s life came to an end too soon, & there was much life for him still to live, he passed with a lot of good memories, proud moments, & accomplishments. We are so proud of the man our Hal was in our lives, a loving husband, dedicated father, almost grandpa, & an amazing brother, son, & friend.
Hal was predeceased by his parents; Victor & Betty Ketchum, his brother Arthur, & nephews; Rob Pequin & Keray Ketchum. He is survived by his wife Julie Ketchum, daughter Jennifer (Aaron) Boehm, son Curtis Ketchum, siblings; Theresa (Dave), Debby, Gordon, Ralph (Charlene), & Brian (Theresa)
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 13th, 2017 at the Widewater Complex at 1:00pm-4:00pm; there will be a slideshow & eulogy, followed by an open mic for those who would like to speak in memory of Hal & a potluck spread.
We have been so blessed with the friends & family that have been here for us through this difficult time, and we would like to thank all of you for everything you’ve done & would be honored if you could come celebrate Hal’s life with us. Hal will be greatly missed by many, but never forgotten.
